HW: Horror/Thriller Openings - Research

Thriller - Se7en (Fincher, 1995)



Conventions:


  • Low key lighting
  • Syncopated music creates a dark feel
  • Fast cutting rate
  • Some black and white scenes
  • Random images creates a sense of mystery and unknown
  • Shots at random angles but all CUs
  • Writing is like a childs writing
     

Horror - Final Destination (Wong, 2000)


Conventions:


  • Low key lighting
  • Orchestral score creates tension
  • Mainly CUs
  • Diegetic sound of the fan, the book hitting the bed, the scream etc.
  • Ghostly writing
  • Red writing is highlighted to signify blood, and conveys a dark message 'this is the end'

    We should definitely use the low key lighting and fast cutting rate in our production.
