Final Cut

Brief

To create a short film which uses:

• Continuity editing with a varying degree of distances and angles
• 180' rule
• Two lines of dialogue
• A shot where a door is opened

What did we learn about filming? What were our best shots? What difficulties did we encounter?

• Zooming in too much can cause shot to look grainy and lose its picture quality
• Our best shots were the use of ECU and pan across the eyes
• Also learnt about the limitations of our equipment such as difficutly in applying manual focus

What did we learn about editing? What did we do in post production that was successful?

• Learnt about balancing sound levels
• Editng clips together to create smooth continuity
• In post production we successful used soundtrack to connote theme
• Successfully created continuity with a fast cutting rate

What were our strengths and weaknesses? What tips should we give ourselves for the final piece?

• A strength was the appropriate use of non diegetic sound to connote theme and in the climax
• A weakness was a lack of clear story, could develop a more enigmatic plot
